Baidu Inc. has launched a new artificial intelligence model designed to articulate its reasoning processes, in a move to regain ground against rapidly developing rivals such as DeepSeek.
The Ernie X1 model, developed by China’s leading internet search provider, mirrors the capabilities of DeepSeek R1. DeepSeek R1 notably impressed the tech world by delivering performance on par with leading global chatbots but at a significantly reduced development cost. According to a statement released on Sunday, Baidu’s reasoning model shows particular strength in everyday conversations, intricate calculations, and logical reasoning.
