Baidu Inc. has unveiled a new artificial intelligence model, Ernie X1, which is designed to focus on reasoning capabilities. This move is seen as an effort by China’s internet search leader to regain ground against emerging rivals, particularly those such as DeepSeek.
The Ernie X1 model’s approach is similar to DeepSeek R1, which gained attention for delivering performance comparable to top-tier chatbots at significantly lower development costs. Baidu’s new reasoning model is said to perform well in areas like everyday conversations, intricate calculations, and logical deduction, according to a statement released on Sunday.
