Schools in Beijing are preparing to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) courses for primary and secondary students, reflecting China’s strategic aim to become a dominant force in the technology sector.
The Beijing Municipal Education Commission announced that beginning with the fall semester, which begins on September 1, schools within the city will be required to offer a minimum of eight hours of AI instruction annually. Schools have the option to implement these courses as independent subjects or integrate them into current curricula, such as information technology and science, according to the Commission’s statement available on its website.
