Belgian Tech Firm Sets Up Shop in Rapid City
Rapid City, South Dakota, is now home to Haemers Technologies, an international company that focuses on fixing contaminated soil using heat. The Belgium-based firm picked the City of Presidents to spread its business and manufacturing across the sea. For two years, Haemers Technologies chatted with Elevate Rapid City about this idea.
Lori Frederick, a top economic development person at Elevate, said that the international company saw South Dakota as a great place due to its good tax and business rules. She said that Haemers was really interested in Rapid City because of the workers from Western Dakota Tech and South Dakota Mines who knew a lot about the environment.
Frederick explained, “We have a special program here that trains both environmental engineers and technicians. This was super interesting to them. Then, we started talking about places to set up shop, and I helped them figure out what they needed.”
She mentioned that Haemers can now clean up soil without digging it up and moving it. Frederick thinks this company will help the local economy by bringing in jobs that pay well.
Haemers has been in Rapid City for a couple of months already.
