Celebrating Innovation at Boise State
Boise State University’s Office of Technology Transfer recently hosted an event to highlight its commitment to research and innovation, coinciding with World Intellectual Property Day. The event, organized by the Center for Research and Creative Activity and the Office of Technology Transfer within the Division of Research and Economic Development, recognized faculty and staff whose inventions are helping to turn ideas into tangible, real-world impacts. This marked the university’s first formal celebration of those advancing intellectual property through research, patents, and invention disclosures.

Throughout 2024, 19 members of the Boise State community submitted 10 invention disclosures, significant milestones on the path to commercializing new technologies. Additionally, the university secured nine new patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. These patents cover a diverse range of innovations, including a Plasma Scalpel developed for microbial removal and a Universal qPCR Telomere Assay.
The Office of Technology Transfer recognizes innovation as both a campus and community asset. It works to transition research from the lab into society through strategic licensing, start-up formation, and institutional partnerships. These efforts not only contribute to regional economic growth but also strengthen Boise State’s reputation as a hub for research and entrepreneurship.
By honoring the people behind the patents and the teams who support their work, Boise State continues to foster a culture of innovation, creativity, and collaboration across campus. The event highlighted the university’s commitment to turning research into real-world impact.
