Bruin Biometrics Honored for Innovation in Pressure Injury Prevention

LOS ANGELES, March 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Bruin Biometrics LLC, a medical technology company focused on digital solutions for pressure injury prevention and management, has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the World’s 10 Most Innovative Companies in the medical device category. This recognition highlights the company’s development and deployment of the Provizio® SEM Scanner.

Since its launch in 2019, the Provizio SEM Scanner has been used to scan over 1 million patients, leading to the documented prevention of roughly 50,000 pressure injuries. The technology is specifically lauded for its effectiveness across all skin tones, addressing a crucial challenge in healthcare.

“We are honored by our selection by one of the most authoritative and respected media outlets in the world,” said Martin Burns, CEO of Bruin Biometrics.

Burns emphasized the importance of the technology, stating that pressure injuries are entirely preventable with the right tools. He also noted the scanner’s unique advantage in detecting pressure injuries in patients with darker skin tones, where visual assessments are often less effective.

“In the case of dark-skinned patients, the current protocols calling for visual, subjective evaluations are ineffective. We eliminate the challenges with the Provizio SEM Scanner,” Burns explained. He added that pressure injuries can be both dangerous for patients and costly for healthcare systems.

The company is also currently releasing a digital platform called PIPPA™ (Pressure Injury Prevention Personal Assistant), which allows users to seamlessly integrate the Provizio SEM Scanner with existing EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems.

Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies is an annual feature that recognizes organizations making significant advancements across various industries, including medical devices. The selection process involves editors and writers evaluating thousands of companies globally to identify groundbreaking innovations.
