Chaos Industries, a Los Angeles-based defense technology company, has secured $275 million in a Series C funding round co-led by Accel and New Enterprise Associates, valuing the company at $2 billion. The funding will support the development of Chaos’s suite of communications, radar, and sensor technologies designed for military use.
Chaos Industries was founded in 2022 by CEO John Tenet, Bo Marr, Gavin Hood, and Brett Cummings. The company has developed a range of technologies, including its commercial radar system Vanquish, which can be used for early warning and tracking of drones, missiles, and aircraft. This technology has the potential to be used in the Trump administration’s proposed ‘Golden Dome’ defense system against missile strikes and other attacks.
The funding round is the latest in a series of significant investments in defense tech companies backed by Silicon Valley venture capitalists. Other recent notable investments include a $600 million round for autonomous boat company Saronic and $250 million for electronic warfare company Epirus. Defense tech companies raised a record $3 billion in venture capital last year, according to Crunchbase.
Accel’s investment in Chaos Industries is part of the firm’s broader strategy to back emerging defense tech companies. Accel has recently led funding rounds for other defense contractors, including Helsing AI and Scale AI, and announced a $260 million funding round for space security company True Anomaly on the same day as Chaos’s funding announcement.
“The future of our national security hinges upon our access to advanced defense technologies and our willingness to invest in their development,” Chaos CEO John Tenet said in a statement. “The latest funding round demonstrates our company’s commitment to this mission.”
Chaos had previously raised $145 million in a funding round just six months ago, also led by Accel. Other investors in the company include 8VC and Overmatch Ventures. The company’s valuation has grown significantly since its last funding round, reflecting the increasing interest and investment in defense technology.
