China has unexpectedly replaced its top technology official, who was instrumental in driving Beijing’s ambitious plans to establish a world-leading chip industry and challenge the US as a high-tech leader.
Jin Zhuanglong, a 60-year-old aerospace expert, has been removed from his position as party secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Information Technology. His absence from public view since last December sparked considerable conjecture about his status.
