‘Critterz’ AI Animated Feature in Development with ‘Paddington in Peru’ Writers
Vertigo Films (U.K.) and AI creative studio Native Foreign are working on a full-length, AI-animated CG feature film based on the short film Critterz. The project has secured James Lamont and Jon Foster, the writers of Paddington in Peru and The Adventures of Paddington, to pen the script.
The Critterz movie is being produced by Allan Niblo and James Richardson of Vertigo, and Nik Kleverov for Native Foreign. Chad Nelson, the director of the original short, will serve as a consulting producer, with Jane Moore as executive producer for Vertigo.

Nelson, the creative specialist at OpenAI, created the short film, which was marketed as the first AI film to blend images generated by the company’s Dall-E system with conventional animation techniques. The film, which features a cast of unusual, somewhat monstrous characters, was shown at Annecy, Cannes Lions, and Tribeca, and was nominated for a Producers Guild Innovation Award.
Native Foreign recently released Critterz: Remastered, demonstrating the advancement in GenAI technology through OpenAI’s Sora.
