Cylinder Acquires Dieta Health to Advance AI-Driven Digestive Care
Cylinder, a virtual digestive health platform, has announced the acquisition of Dieta Health, the developer of the first clinically validated AI-powered stool imaging app. While financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed, the move underscores Cylinder’s commitment to providing more personalized and effective digestive healthcare. Cylinder has already supported nearly 100,000 members, offering personalized care plans and access to a multidisciplinary team of health coaches, dietitians, and gastroenterologists nationwide.

Dieta Health’s technology allows patients to upload stool images via smartphone where the AI analyzes the images using five clinically validated data points. This innovation offers a more accurate alternative to traditional self-reporting methods like the Bristol Stool Scale. Peer-reviewed studies from Cedars-Sinai and the Mayo Clinic have validated the technology. The system has been validated to improve treatment efficacy and reduce costs associated with digestive health issues. Dieta’s database, containing hundreds of thousands of stool images, has contributed to advancements in treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), ulcerative colitis monitoring, and cirrhosis management.
By integrating Dieta Health’s AI technology, Cylinder aims to gain quicker, more precise insights into gastrointestinal (GI) conditions, thus, enabling earlier diagnoses and more tailored treatment strategies. Furthermore, the integration allows for proactive identification of critical shifts in bowel patterns, such as the presence of blood, potentially preventing complications that could lead to expensive hospitalizations.
GI conditions affect a considerable portion of the population and are a significant factor in healthcare costs, with GI-related issues costing the U.S. healthcare system $136 billion annually. Cylinder is committed to addressing these challenges by providing accessible, personalized, and affordable digestive healthcare.
As part of the acquisition, Asaf Kraus, founder and CEO of Dieta Health, along with three key team members, will join Cylinder to continue driving clinical research and integrate AI technology into the platform. This strategic expansion supports Cylinder’s growth objectives and reinforces its dedication to innovation in digestive health. The goal is to deliver immediate clinical gains while fostering long-term innovation in this space.
