Deutsche Telekom and Nvidia Join Forces on AI Cloud Initiative

BERLIN, June 13 – Deutsche Telekom will partner with Nvidia to establish an artificial intelligence cloud for European manufacturers in Germany, the companies announced on Friday. Nvidia will supply 10,000 graphics processing units (GPUs) to be integrated into Deutsche Telekom’s existing data centers.

The cloud, slated for implementation by 2026, is seen as a crucial step towards building large-scale data centers. This initiative aligns with the German government’s efforts to modernize the country’s lagging industry and is part of EU endeavors to catch up with global AI leaders.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently unveiled plans to build an AI cloud platform in Germany. During his visit, Huang met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who expressed support for the partnership. “Investments in strategic AI infrastructures are central to our country’s innovative strength,” Merz stated.

GPUs have become essential components in AI development. Germany aims to promote the construction of large data centers to accommodate the AI shift, with plans to secure up to 100,000 GPUs with a 35% state subsidy. “But that means the industry has to take over 65%,” noted Thomas Jarzombek, the government’s junior minister for digital affairs.

This collaboration follows the European Commission’s announcement of $20 billion in funding for AI data center construction to bridge the gap with the U.S. and China. Deutsche Telekom has also partnered with SAP, Ionos, and Schwarz to seek EU support for building an AI data center in Germany.

The partnership between Deutsche Telekom and Nvidia is set to enhance Germany’s digital sovereignty and economic future, marking a significant step in the country’s AI development journey.
