The two-day event, held in partnership with the library, aims to showcase forthcoming digital literacy programs for the East Orange community beginning in Winter 2025. The showcase will bring together stakeholders and residents.
Panel discussions on the evening of October 18th will focus on the importance of digital literacy for youth and future careers. Topics will include AI and Automation, Cybersecurity at Home, and Raising Digital Citizens. On October 19th, local youth will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on educational activities, including Robotics, Drones, Game Development using Roblox, AI & Machine Learning, Video Editing, and coding in both block-based and Python languages.
This collaboration between Technology For {You}th and the East Orange Public Library seeks to establish a Tech and Innovation Hub. The hub will provide digital literacy education to students in grades K-12 and adult learners in the East Orange community.
Omari Edwards, CEO of Technology For {You}th, commented on the event, saying, “Technology has and will continue to reshape the world, having brought with it abundant opportunities that have positively impacted generations of families. However, technology has also brought with it the threat of being left behind for those who are not included or adequately trained. We at Technology for {You}th recognized this gap, and are excited to provide a one-of-a-kind two-day Technology Showcase for local youth at the East Orange Public Library – where K-12 students will gain digital literacy and practical tech skills in Robotics, AI, Coding, and more; obtaining the “spark” that will enable them to pursue, participate, and ultimately excel in the future of work.”
