Ed Tech Startup Kira Launches AI-Native Learning Platform
A new K-12 learning platform called Kira aims to bring personalized education to every student by integrating artificial intelligence directly into educational workflows. Founded by Andrew Ng, former director of Stanford’s AI Lab and co-founder of Coursera and DeepLearning.AI, Kira helps educators utilize AI agents to handle repetitive tasks, freeing them to focus on personalized student support.

The platform can create detailed, standards-aligned lesson plans, provide real-time individualized tutoring and feedback for students, and automatically grade assignments. It processes various instructional data to detect struggling students early and pairs alerts with recommended interventions. For administrators, Kira offers real-time insights into classroom and district-wide performance, including data on student engagement, learning outcomes, and instructional effectiveness.
Originally developed for computer science education and AI literacy programs, Kira now supports all subject areas and can be integrated into existing learning management systems or used as a standalone LMS. “AI is already quietly reshaping K-12 education,” said Ng, Kira’s Chairman. “Kira has built entirely new ways to support teachers and students.”
Teachers who have used Kira report significant benefits. “Kira has completely transformed the way I provide meaningful feedback and assist struggling learners,” said Lance Key, Future Ready VITAL Support Specialist in Putnam County, TN, where Kira has been adopted statewide.
The platform’s development reflects a growing trend of using AI to enhance education. As Ng noted, “By relieving educators of busywork, they can focus more deeply on teaching, inspiring, and guiding their students, so that every student receives the individual support they deserve.”
