Elon Musk to Visit India Following Call with PM Modi
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has confirmed his plans to visit India later this year after holding a phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 18. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce his upcoming visit, stating, “It was an honor to speak with PM Modi. I am looking forward to visiting India later this year!”

The phone call between Musk and PM Modi revisited topics discussed during their previous in-person meeting in Washington D.C. earlier this year. Prime Minister Modi shared on social media, “Spoke to @elonmusk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year. We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation. India remains committed to advancing our partnerships with the US in these domains.”
The conversation has sparked speculation about the potential launch of Tesla and Starlink in the Indian market. Tesla is currently in the process of hiring in India, while Starlink’s application for authorization from India’s Department of Telecommunications is progressing slowly. However, Starlink executives recently met with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, indicating behind-the-scenes progress.
While details of Musk’s visit remain unconfirmed, potential collaboration between Tesla, Starlink, and Indian stakeholders could significantly boost India’s technology and infrastructure sectors. The renewed dialogue comes amid heightened geopolitical activity between major economies as the U.S. intensifies its trade strategy under President Donald Trump.
Elon Musk’s influence extends to the global crypto space, having previously impacted cryptocurrency values with his tweets. India currently imposes a 30% tax on crypto gains and a 1% TDS on every trade, maintaining a cautious regulatory approach pending global consensus on digital asset laws.
