West Bengal police have shut down a fake call center in Kolkata’s Narayanpur that was posing as Microsoft technical support to defraud US citizens. Officials reported the raid occurred on Saturday afternoon, leading to the seizure of electronic devices, forged documents, and US-based checks.

The operation involved individuals who deceived victims into believing they were receiving legitimate technical assistance. Authorities stated the perpetrators used the illicitly obtained funds for Hawala transactions. During questioning, the call center staff were unable to provide valid business documentation, resulting in their immediate detention.
Preliminary investigations indicate the fraudsters targeted US citizens through mass emails. They would then direct victims to a fraudulent helpline and, posing as Microsoft representatives, convince them to pay for nonexistent technical support services. Officials noted the utilization of forged documents and international transactions via Hawala to further their scheme.
A case has been registered at the Narayanpur police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Indian Telegraph Act. Further investigations into the matter are currently ongoing.
