FCC Investigates Chinese Tech and Telecom Firms
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has launched an investigation into several Chinese technology and telecom companies to determine if they are attempting to evade U.S. restrictions. The FCC announced the probe on Friday, naming companies such as Huawei Technology, ZTE, Hangzhou Hikvision, China Mobile, and China Telecom among those under scrutiny.
These companies have all been placed on the FCC’s “Covered List.” This designation is applied to specific communications equipment and services that the FCC deems to pose a threat to U.S. national security. The investigation aims to ascertain whether these companies are circumventing the restrictions that are in place.
According to FCC Chair Brendan Carr, the investigation seeks to determine if these companies are still operating within the United States, potentially by disregarding the existing designations.
