Figure, the company behind the humanoid robot Figure 02, has released new videos demonstrating collaborative capabilities powered by its new Helix AI. These videos highlight the progress in multi-robot coordination and object manipulation, showcasing the potential of these technologies in various practical applications.
Collaborative Grocery Duty
The first video demonstrates two Figure 02 robots collaborating in a home lab setting to put away groceries. They are given verbal instructions to sort items, placing cheese in the fridge, cookies in the cupboard, and an apple in the fruit bowl. Figure emphasizes that these are objects the robots haven’t encountered before.
The robo-buddies are shown working together to ensure the cheese reaches the fridge, the cookies get to the cupboard, and the apple ends up in the fruit bowl.
Figure explained that both robots operate on a single set of neural network weights, streamlining collaboration and task-switching.
Assembly Line Sorting
A second video shows Figure 02 robots sorting packages on an assembly line. Figure highlights the enhanced 3D understanding enabled by the robots’ stereovision system. A key feature is the robots’ ability to orient unfamiliar objects and correct their actions.
Potential and Limitations
While these demonstrations offer insights into the Figure 02’s capabilities, real-world testing in uncontrolled environments remains a crucial step. These robots are designed to operate within the home, workplace, and eventually, even space. Figure faces competition from companies like Agility Robotics, Boston Dynamics, Tesla, and 1X, all showcasing autonomous robots.
