Finger Lakes Community College to Host Event on High-Tech Career Transition
Finger Lakes Community College’s Smart Systems Technologies Program is hosting an event on Tuesday, titled CO-OP Ventures XIV: Smart Systems Technology’s “From Struggle to Strength: Transforming Underemployment Into High-Tech Careers.” The event aims to cater to prospective students, particularly adults, interested in exploring career options in technology while continuing to earn a living.
FLCC President Dr. Robert Nye will deliver the opening address, followed by a panel discussion featuring industry professionals from UEC Advanced Circuit Technologies, Quality Vision International, and Rochester Precisions Optics. The panel will share insights on transitioning into high-demand tech careers. Student co-op presentations will conclude the event.
The event comes at a time when New York State has announced initiatives to support adults pursuing higher education in high-demand fields. Governor Kathy Hochul’s recent budget announcement included a free community college program for adults aged 25-55, covering tuition, fees, books, and supplies for those pursuing degrees in fields like cybersecurity, nursing, and technology through SUNY Reconnect.
The event will take place in the FLCC cafeteria at 3325 Marvin Sands Drive from 5-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Light refreshments will be served. Those planning to attend in person are required to RSVP, while those interested in viewing via live stream should email sam.samanta@flcc.edu for details.
