Foley & Lardner LLP has significantly expanded its presence in California with the addition of five partners to its Intellectual Property Department. The new partners bring extensive experience in patent litigation, post-grant proceedings, and IP portfolio management, strengthening the firm’s Innovative Technology and Health Care & Life Sciences sectors.

Four of the new partners – John Schnurer, Louise Lu, Kevin Patariu, and Miguel Bombach – have joined the firm’s IP Litigation Practice Group and Innovative Technology Sector in San Diego. They come from Perkins Coie and bring a wealth of experience in handling complex patent disputes and advising clients across various industries, including semiconductors, electronics, and software.

    Key Expertise of New Partners

The new partners have collectively handled over 70 Section 337 investigations and more than 270 inter partes review petitions. Their expertise includes:

    • Patent litigation and post-grant proceedings
    • IP portfolio management and strategic counseling
    • Licensing and technology transactions

“We are pleased to welcome this exceptional group to Foley,” said Daljit Doogal, Foley chairman and CEO. “Their practices align with our strategic plan, and their experience further solidifies our capabilities in the Innovative Technology Sector.”

Enhanced Capabilities in Health Care & Life Sciences

Tom Anderton has joined the firm’s Chemical, Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Practice Group and Health Care & Life Sciences Sector in San Francisco, coming from K&L Gates. He advises companies on transactional and intellectual property matters, particularly in the life sciences, biopharmaceuticals, and medical device industries.

Anderton’s expertise includes patent procurement, portfolio creation and monetization, and drafting and negotiating complex agreements. “Foley was my go-to firm during my time in-house at several life sciences companies,” Anderton said. “I’m excited to join Foley and contribute to its continued success in the Health Care & Life Sciences Sector.”

    Strategic Growth for Foley

The arrival of these five partners enhances Foley’s national Intellectual Property Department, which includes over 300 dedicated professionals. “This is a noteworthy period of strategic growth for Foley in California and our IP group,” Doogal added. “These hires reflect our commitment to strengthening our presence and capabilities across key markets and sectors.”

The new partners bring significant experience and expertise to Foley, further establishing the firm as a leader in Intellectual Property law.
