Foley & Lardner LLP has significantly expanded its presence in California with the addition of five partners to its Intellectual Property Department. The new partners bring extensive experience in patent litigation, post-grant proceedings, and IP portfolio management, strengthening the firm’s Innovative Technology and Health Care & Life Sciences sectors.
Four of the new partners – John Schnurer, Louise Lu, Kevin Patariu, and Miguel Bombach – have joined the firm’s IP Litigation Practice Group and Innovative Technology Sector in San Diego. They come from Perkins Coie and bring a wealth of experience in handling complex patent disputes and advising clients across various industries, including semiconductors, electronics, and software.

The new partners have collectively handled over 70 Section 337 investigations and more than 270 inter partes review petitions. Their expertise includes:

Enhanced Capabilities in Health Care & Life Sciences
Tom Anderton has joined the firm’s Chemical, Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Practice Group and Health Care & Life Sciences Sector in San Francisco, coming from K&L Gates. He advises companies on transactional and intellectual property matters, particularly in the life sciences, biopharmaceuticals, and medical device industries.
Anderton’s expertise includes patent procurement, portfolio creation and monetization, and drafting and negotiating complex agreements. “Foley was my go-to firm during my time in-house at several life sciences companies,” Anderton said. “I’m excited to join Foley and contribute to its continued success in the Health Care & Life Sciences Sector.”
