March 24, 2025 – FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corp. and Us2.ai have joined forces to incorporate Us2.ai’s artificial intelligence (AI) solution into Fujifilm’s LISENDO 880 cardiovascular ultrasound system. This innovative integration is designed to automate the analysis and reporting of echocardiograms, providing doctors with comprehensive cardiac measurements to aid in the diagnosis of heart disease.
Echocardiography is a widely used non-invasive imaging technique for examining the heart, recognized for its safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness in identifying various cardiac abnormalities. However, the current echocardiography workflow presents challenges, including being a labor-intensive and time-consuming process. Moreover, the procedure requires experts who are in short supply, leading to workforce shortages for sonographers.
Us2.ai’s software offers a solution to these challenges. Studies have indicated that the technology significantly reduces the time needed for measurements and report creation. According to a study published in the Journal of Echocardiography, the software resulted in a 70% reduction in the time required to create these reports when compared to manual methods.
“Echo images are the gold standard for non-invasive cardiac imaging, however the average time to complete an exam can take anywhere from 40 to 90 minutes, plus reporting time. AI has the ability to dramatically reduce this time burden, provide cardiologists with intelligent insights, and allow for more patients to get scanned,” said Hideyuki Honda, Vice President, Ultrasound Business Unit and Business Development, FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation. “Fujifilm is thrilled to partner with Us2.ai to integrate their sophisticated AI with our cutting-edge LISENDO 880, providing cardiologists with exceptional, AI-driven automation analysis of the heart.”
Typically, echo studies involve capturing images and performing manual or semi-automated measurements before sending them to an image server. With the Us2.ai software integrated into the LISENDO 880, the system automatically analyzes the obtained images, eliminating the need for manual measurements. The software identifies heart chambers, calculates important clinical measurements, and offers disease indication conclusions based on international guidelines, which support doctors during decision-making.
“Fujifilm ultrasound is renowned for image quality, combining this with Us2.ai’s fully automated AI analysis for echocardiography is a game-changer for echo labs who can now address the many workflow, quality, and ergonomic/safety challenges they face,” said Seth Koeppel, Us2.ai Head of Business Development. “Performing echo looks a lot like it did 30-years ago and is long overdue for a solution to face the ever increasing backlog of tests and the variability of the results due to it being highly manual.”
