Gemini App Now Features Native AI Image Editing
The Gemini app has received a significant update, introducing native AI image editing capabilities that allow users to modify both uploaded and generated images with ease. This feature, previously available in AI Studio, is now rolling out to the Gemini app, enabling users to change backgrounds, replace objects, add elements, and more.

The update brings several exciting possibilities for users. For instance, you can upload a personal photo and prompt Gemini to generate an image of yourself with different hair colors. This intuitive, multi-step editing capability allows for richer, more contextual responses to prompts that integrate both text and images. For example, you could ask Gemini to create a first draft of a bedtime story about dragons, complete with accompanying images.
Consistent with Gemini’s approach to AI-generated content, images created or edited using native image generation will include the invisible SynthID digital watermark. The team is also experimenting with adding a visible watermark to all images generated by Gemini.
The native image editing feature in Gemini is gradually rolling out today and will expand to more people across over 45 languages and most countries in the coming weeks. It’s worth noting that this feature is not yet available to Google Workspace or Education users.
