Global Renewable Energy Sees Record Growth

WASHINGTON (AP) – The installation of renewable energy sources across the globe reached a record high last year, with an impressive 92.5% of all newly added electricity coming from clean sources like solar and wind, according to a recent report. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) released the findings on Wednesday, highlighting a significant shift in global energy production.

The report showed that China contributed a substantial portion of this growth, accounting for nearly 64% of the new renewable electricity capacity added in 2024. Overall, the world’s renewable electrical energy capacity increased by 585 billion watts, marking a 15.1% increase from 2023. Solar and wind power, along with other renewable sources, now provide 46% of the world’s electricity.

This growth underscores the increasing global transition towards sustainable energy sources. The substantial investment in renewables, particularly in China, suggests a long-term trend towards cleaner energy production worldwide.
