Google Expands Ad Network to Chatbot Conversations
Google’s ad network has begun showing advertising within the flow of conversations with chatbots, as part of Alphabet Inc.’s efforts to maintain its edge in digital advertising amid the rise of generative artificial intelligence.
Earlier this year, Google’s AdSense for Search network, traditionally limited to showing ads within search results on other websites, expanded to include conversations with chatbots operated by AI startups. This move followed tests conducted by Google last year and earlier this year with a handful of startups, including AI search apps iAsk and Liner, according to people familiar with the matter who requested anonymity due to the private nature of the information.
