Google DeepMind and Google Research have launched a public preview of Weather Lab, an interactive website designed to share their AI weather models with the public. Alongside this launch, they’re introducing their latest experimental AI-based cyclone predictions. Although still in the experimental phase, the technology aims to enhance the ability of weather agencies and emergency service experts to predict a cyclone’s path and intensity.

    How It Works

A recent example from March 2, 2025, demonstrates the capabilities of this technology. An animation from their experimental cyclone model shows accurate predictions of Cyclone Honde and Garance’s paths south of Madagascar, as well as Cyclone Jude and Ivone in the Indian Ocean, nearly seven days in advance. The model’s predictions are depicted in blue.

    Future Developments

The goal is to continue refining this technology to better serve weather agencies and emergency response teams. To achieve this, Google is gathering crucial feedback from these experts. For more information on this initiative and how they’re collecting feedback, readers can refer to the full announcement.
