Google Sheets has received a significant upgrade powered by Gemini, Google’s advanced AI model. This update allows users to analyze data more efficiently and transform spreadsheets into informative charts automatically.
Google announced the enhancement in January, and on Friday, the company rolled out the new AI-powered features to all Workspace business users. With this update, Gemini’s capabilities enable users to quickly analyze their data, uncovering correlations, identifying trends, and pinpointing outliers. The AI can also generate advanced visualizations, such as heatmaps, directly within the spreadsheet cells as static images.
To utilize the new features, users simply click the Gemini spark icon located in the top-right corner of their spreadsheet. This action opens a chat interface where users can pose questions to Gemini. For example, users can ask Gemini to “predict my net income for the next quarter based on historical data” or to “create a simple heatmap of support cases by category and device.”

To begin using the Gemini feature, locate and click the designated icon, which provides direct access to the AI model. From there, users can engage with Gemini to gain insights from their data, identifying anomalies or pinpointing key performance indicators.
Google ensures that Gemini uses Python code and multi-layered analysis to provide comprehensive support. For straightforward requires, the AI utilizes standard spreadsheet formulas as a functional alternative.
For the most accurate results, Google recommends using consistent data formatting, well-defined headers, and the absence of missing values.
This update is part of Google’s ongoing efforts to incorporate advanced AI features, following a similar release where Gemini could summarize documents, after being an Advanced-exclusive perk. Google continues to stay competitive in the tech sector alongside companies like OpenAI and DeepSeek, who offer similar AI models to the public.
