At its annual developer conference, Google unveiled Veo 3, the latest upgrade to its AI video generation tool developed by Google DeepMind. The new model generates not only high-resolution, cinematic visuals but also includes realistic audio, such as ambient sound, effects, and even spoken dialogue. This feature sets Veo 3 apart from competing tools like OpenAI’s Sora, Meta Platforms’ MovieGen, and Runway’s Gen-4, which currently lack audio support.
Veo 3’s ability to merge visuals with synchronized sound has generated significant interest online, with many users questioning whether the generated content is AI-created or real. Demis Hassabis, co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind, commented, “It’s kind of mindblowing how good Veo 3 is at modeling intuitive physics.” He suggested that this progress could offer crucial insights into the computational complexity of the universe.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to the announcement, saying, “It is awesome. Nice work.” This praise follows his previous admiration for Google’s Veo 2 last year. Interestingly, while Musk has been praising Google’s video models, he has previously expressed concerns about Google’s Gemini, accusing it of being biased.
The development comes as Musk’s AI venture, xAI, is reportedly gearing up for a major investment that could benefit Nvidia Corp. xAI plans to deploy 1 million GPUs near Memphis.
