Google’s AI Mode: Enhancing Search with Artificial Intelligence
Google has updated its AI Mode feature, making it more suitable for planning summer vacations, shopping trips, or learning about various topics. The update brings visual place and product cards, a left-side panel for past searches, and improved functionality for nuanced queries.
Key Features of AI Mode
- Combines real-time information access with generative AI capabilities
- Helps with complex queries like shopping and trip planning
- Displays visual place and product cards with detailed information
- Includes a left-side panel for accessing past searches
- Allows for follow-up questions and more personalized answers
AI Mode serves as a research partner, providing users with the information needed to book trips or make purchases. It’s particularly useful for queries with multiple criteria, such as finding specific products or travel destinations.

Accessing AI Mode
US users can now access AI Mode immediately by visiting Google Labs. A small percentage of US Google Search users will also see the AI Mode tab on their Search page as part of a limited test.
How AI Mode Differs from AI Overviews and Gemini
AI Mode is an extension of the AI Overviews experience, allowing users to ask follow-up questions and receive AI-generated responses on demand. Unlike AI Overviews, which only populates AI responses when deemed relevant, AI Mode provides more predictable access to AI-generated content. Gemini, on the other hand, functions more as a personal assistant for productivity and creativity tasks.
The update reflects Google’s efforts to enhance its search capabilities with AI technology, providing users with a more comprehensive and personalized search experience.
