The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall for HTRC C240 battery chargers, citing fire and burn hazards. These chargers, designed for charging lithium-ion batteries, present a significant risk to consumers due to their potential to ignite or cause connected batteries to catch fire.

Manufactured by Shenzhen Haitan Technology Co. Ltd. (d/b/a HTRC) of China, approximately 34,600 units are affected by the recall. Consumers are urged to stop using these chargers immediately.

    Hazard and Remedy

The primary hazard stems from the charger’s ability to ignite or cause a connected battery to ignite. This poses a serious threat of fire and burns, with potential for severe injury and death.

The remedy for this recall is a full refund. Consumers are instructed to contact HTRC for instructions on returning the chargers.

    Product Details

The recalled HTRC C240 battery chargers are black and have two blue screens, labeled 1 and 2. The model identifier “C240 DUO” is printed between the screens, and the brand name “HTRC” appears in the bottom left corner.

    Incidents and Sales

HTRC has received 32 reports of fire and other thermal incidents related to the chargers. There have been five reports of significant property damage and one injury reported.

The chargers were sold online at AliExpress.com, Amazon.com, Banggood.com, eBay.com, HTRC-Direct.com, and RCGoing.com. The sales period spanned from December 2017 through June 2024, with prices ranging from $65 to $290.

    Consumer Contact Information

Consumers can contact HTRC for more information and instructions on the recall process. They can reach HTRC by calling 951-215-8389 between 6 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. ET, and 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. ET, by emailing servicesupport@ht-rc.com, or by visiting www.ht-rc.com/recalls.asp
