Huawei Unveils AI-Ready Data Storage Solutions for Telecom Carriers

BARCELONA, Spain, March 3, 2025 – At MWC 2025 Barcelona, Huawei showcased its latest data storage solutions designed to help telecom carriers embrace the transformative potential of artificial intelligence. Dr. Peter Zhou, President of Huawei Data Storage Product Line, delivered a keynote address highlighting the company’s vision for AI-Ready Data Storage to accelerate the ‘Telco-to-Techco’ transformation.

Zhou emphasized that the wave of AI-powered transformation sweeping across various industries is ushering in a ‘golden era for data’. Telecom carriers are increasingly seeking to capitalize on new business opportunities and monetize various application scenarios such as smart homes and digital factories. This, in turn, is placing higher demands on data storage capabilities, service offerings, and evolving business models.

“Huawei Data Storage provides the AI-Ready data lake solution, diverse data storage services, and the FlashEver business model, empowering carriers to turn their disordered data into high-quality assets to unlock the value of data,” Dr. Zhou stated.

    Addressing the Challenges

Huawei’s AI-Ready data lake solution aims to break down data silos, thereby enhancing data visibility, manageability, and overall availability. To meet the demands of mission-critical workloads, Huawei has launched:

    • The New-Gen OceanStor Dorado Converged All-Flash Storage and OceanStor A Series High-Performance AI Storage, which boast impressive performance metrics of up to 100 million input/output operations per second (IOPS), alongside financial-grade reliability.
    • These new storage solutions are engineered for efficient AI training and inference, supporting billions of daily charging services and robust mobile financial services.
    • Enhanced object storage capabilities enable seamless integration of carrier services with cloud-native and AI applications.

For managing massive data volumes, the company is offering the New-Gen OceanStor Pacific All-Flash Scale-Out Storage, designed for high density and low power consumption. This storage solution provides exabyte-level scalability to accommodate emerging services like live streams and XR (extended reality) games.

Furthermore, Huawei presented the New-Gen OceanProtect All-Flash Backup Storage, designed for data protection. This backup storage solution offers a significantly faster data recovery, up to five times faster than other industry alternatives, supporting essential services such as emergency drills and AI application development.

    Fueling AI Evolution for Carriers

Huawei recognizes that carriers face several challenges when adopting AI. These include weak data engineering, insufficient AI model development platforms, extended data preparation times, slow model training, and complex AI application development processes. To address these issues, Huawei is providing its DCS AI Solution, which offers a one-stop AI full-process toolchain and containerized environment to accelerate the fine-tuning and large-scale deployment of AI models.

    The FlashEver Business Model

Recognizing the increasing investment demands placed on carriers by the evolving technology landscape, Dr. Zhou introduced Huawei’s FlashEver business model. This model aims to protect carrier investments by offering a flexible, evolutionary architecture that enables ongoing upgrades for live-network equipment. Furthermore, the Huawei storage platform will provide flexible purchase options, service level agreement (SLA) assurances, alongside a range of specialized storage and data services, to guarantee a high-quality customer experience.

Dr. Zhou re-emphasized Huawei’s sustained commitment to innovation, with a specific focus on constructing an AI-ready data storage infrastructure to provide future-proofed storage capabilities and fuel broader AI adoption across the carrier sector.
