IBM Expands Software Availability on Microsoft Azure, Bringing Apptio Solutions to the Marketplace
ARMONK, N.Y., October 29, 2024 – IBM (NYSE: IBM) announced today a significant expansion of its software offerings on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, including the integration of its Apptio portfolio. This strategic move aims to help organizations make more informed technology planning decisions in an era of evolving IT budgets and the rise of generative AI.

To meet the increasing pressure on IT leaders to demonstrate the value of their investments, IBM is making its Targetprocess Enterprise Agile Planning (EAP) software available on the Azure Marketplace. This software, acquired from Apptio, assists portfolio managers and finance teams. It allows them to plan, manage budgets, and align workforces across various technology priorities while applying technology business management (TBM) industry best practices. Targetprocess, now a native software-as-a-service solution, integrates with Azure DevOps.
IBM Targetprocess, a leader in IDC’s MarketScape for Worldwide Value Stream Management and Agile Project and Portfolio Management and Gartner’s Enterprise Agile Planning Magic Quadrant, enriches Azure DevOps capabilities, enabling end-to-end visibility. It also supports diverse Agile frameworks, ensuring a single source of truth for technology spending and labor allocation.
IBM is also expanding the global availability of its software portfolio via the Azure Marketplace, adding 14 countries including Australia, Canada, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Italy, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The Azure marketplace is a popular choice for IT purchases, and IBM’s offerings enable clients to use their Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitments.
This expansion includes access to IBM technologies such as Aspera on Cloud SaaS, Netezza SaaS, SingleStoreDB SaaS, Streamsets, IBM Planning Analytics SaaS, and webMethods Integration Suite. Furthermore, watsonx.ai, watsonx.data, and watsonx.governance are available as a customer-managed service.
“Thousands of clients are already using the Apptio portfolio to optimize their IT investments,” noted Nick Otto, Head of Global Strategic Partnerships, IBM. “Bringing IBM Targetprocess to the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, along with more comprehensive availability of other IBM software globally, helps us to support clients on their digital transformation journey with easy marketplace purchasing.”
Dinis Couto, GM, GSI Commercial Partners at Microsoft, added: “Today’s announcement illustrates how IBM and Microsoft are empowering customers to efficiently use IT resources and adapt to evolving tech needs, especially with the rise of cloud-based AI innovation. Our collaboration will improve decision-making, increase productivity and enhance IT management for organizations of all sizes.”
Microsoft will also adopt Apptio’s capabilities internally. The IBM and Microsoft collaboration reflects a shared vision for hybrid, multi-cloud business transformation.
IBM Consulting is also making nearly 50 offerings available on the Azure Marketplace, globally. These offerings assist clients in driving business transformation through hybrid cloud, generative AI, data and application modernization, security services, and industry-specific solutions.
IBM Targetprocess is the first Apptio product available on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, with plans to make IBM Apptio Costing and Planning available in Q4 2024. IBM Cloudability is also under consideration.
