In a meeting that could shape India’s technological future, Shri. Arvind Krishna, Global Head of IBM Corporation, met with Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh to explore potential collaborations. The discussions focused on joint projects in the areas of Quantum computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and geospatial AI solutions. This strategic move underscores India’s ambition to be at the forefront of technological innovation.
Both parties acknowledged the significant advancements India has made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, positioning the nation as a leader in AI and other next-generation technologies. The meeting took place against the backdrop of India’s National Quantum Mission, which further solidifies the country’s commitment to excellence in quantum technologies.
Dr. Jitendra Singh, who also serves as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, and Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, reaffirmed the Indian government’s dedication to fostering a strong innovation ecosystem. He highlighted the importance of collaboration with the private sector, citing recent developments in the space sector and the Union Budget’s provisions for non-government participation in nuclear energy development. These initiatives demonstrate India’s focus on promoting deep-tech innovation.
“India is more open than ever to partnerships with the private sector,” Dr. Singh stated, emphasizing the need for global cooperation to accelerate technological progress. He also highlighted the crucial role of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) in creating a robust research environment and expressed confidence in the potential of India’s youth to achieve the goals of Viksit Bharat @ 2047. The minister reiterated the government’s support for a deep-tech enabled India, emphasizing indigenous solutions and self-reliance.
Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, assured full support from governmental institutions during discussions to facilitate technological collaborations. Also present from the IBM delegation were Sandip Patel, Country General Manager and MD; Kishore Balaji, Executive Director – GRA; and Amith Singhee, Director, IBM Research India & CTO, who expressed their commitment to strengthening IBM’s involvement in India’s technology ecosystem.
