India’s Deeptech Sector: Challenges and Opportunities
India’s tech startup ecosystem is undergoing a significant transformation as technology adoption accelerates at an unprecedented pace. The deeptech sector, fueled by advancements in spacetech, quantum computing, AI/ML, and AR/VR, is growing rapidly. The global deeptech market is projected to reach $714.6 billion by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 48.2%.
However, India’s deeptech sector faces several challenges, including huge funding gaps, brain drain, and inadequate government support. The country’s underdeveloped hardware infrastructure and preference for consumer-facing ventures over long-term R&D in deeptech further hinder its growth.
Addressing the Challenges: BIGShift Accelerator Programme

To address these challenges, Inc42 and India Accelerator have launched the BIGShift accelerator programme. This flagship initiative aims to identify, mentor, and fund high-potential deeptech startups in India. BIGShift will support startups building innovative solutions in areas such as quantum computing, fintech, biotech, robotics, cybersecurity, agritech, chip design, and GenAI.
Benefits for Startups
Selected startups will participate in a rigorous four-week bootcamp, where they will receive hands-on support from experienced deeptech founders, investors, and domain experts. They will have the opportunity to secure at least $100,000 in funding and receive exclusive perks from technology partners such as Google, Microsoft, Databricks, Vedanta, and Infogain. These benefits include cloud credits ranging from $25,000 to $250,000, technical support, and access to various platforms and innovation hubs.
Shortlisting Criteria and Application Process

Startups that meet the selection criteria will undergo an interview process, and the most promising ones will be invited to join the BIGShift programme. Deeptech founders eager to take their startups to the next level can apply for the programme through the Inc42 website.
The BIGShift programme is designed to bridge the gap between deeptech innovation and commercial success. By providing a curated ecosystem of mentors, corporates, and enablers, BIGShift aims to help deeptech founders navigate the challenges of scaling their businesses and achieving global success.
