The Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) hosted its Innovation Exchange Pitch event on June 18 at its New Kingston offices, bringing together 11 local tech companies to showcase their innovative solutions for both domestic and international markets. The event aimed to raise awareness among corporate leaders, government officials, and JAMPRO’s leadership team about the capabilities of Jamaican tech firms.
JAMPRO President Sublette Cox addressed the opening ceremony, highlighting that the initiative provided direct access to local business and industry leaders while emphasizing the importance of promoting Jamaican tech services both locally and internationally. “We started working closely with the tech industry in 2023 when we launched our Technology Innovation District Accelerator Project,” Cox explained. “For the JAMPRO team, it has been a learning process in understanding Jamaica’s tech industry and its needs.”
The event sought to foster greater collaboration between public and private-sector firms and Jamaican tech businesses. Cox noted that the emergence of the local tech industry marked a departure from traditional products associated with the Jamaican brand. “There are many Jamaican companies that are unaware of what our tech companies are doing,” she said. “This is an opportunity for our private and public-sector partners, alongside our JAMPRO team, to learn more about Jamaica’s technology industry offerings.”
Almando Cox, founder and CEO of Resolve IT Limited, welcomed the collaboration, stating that while the Government and local companies currently utilize local tech talent, more could be done to promote and deepen these relationships. “This kind of awareness, connection, and networking will go a long way in enlightening the community, sectors, and leaders that these technology and solution providers exist,” he said.
The Innovation Exchange Pitch was hosted by JAMPRO’s Export Max Programme, designed to address critical gaps in understanding Jamaica’s tech sector. By providing a platform for Jamaican tech firms to showcase their services, the event aimed to foster new business opportunities and create deeper engagement with the local market.
