Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, known for his Apple insights, has shared new information about the upcoming AI device from OpenAI, a collaboration between Jony Ive and Sam Altman. According to Kuo’s research, the device is expected to be slightly larger than Humane’s AI pin but is designed to be as compact and elegant as an iPod Shuffle.
One of the intended uses for this device is to wear it around the neck, suggesting a wearable form factor. Kuo also indicates that the device might not have a built-in display. Instead, it could rely on cameras and microphones for environmental detection. The device is likely to connect to smartphones and PCs to leverage their computing and display capabilities.
This latest information aligns with a previous report from The Wall Street Journal, which described the device as being aware of a user’s life and surroundings, though it’s not expected to be in the form of glasses. Recently, Altman revealed that OpenAI is acquiring Ive’s AI hardware company, LoveFrom (previously known as Ive’s design firm, io), for $6.5 billion. This acquisition will see Ive’s company taking over the design for all of OpenAI’s products, including software. The first devices from this collaboration are anticipated to launch in 2026.
