The African continent is experiencing a digital revolution. Increased access to digital products and services promises to transform lives and stimulate economic growth. Recognizing this potential, African governments have formulated policies to capitalize on these opportunities. This has led to a surge in regional and national strategies centered on digital transformation, as well as legal frameworks designed to govern digital transactions and services.
However, a comprehensive resource for tracking technology policy strategies has been lacking, along with a mechanism for peer learning among African nations on the policies that best promote innovation. To address this knowledge gap, the Carnegie Africa program, in partnership with the Africa Telecommunications Union, has created the Africa Technology Policy Tracker (AfTech). This is the first continent-wide compilation of digital economy laws, policies, and regulations.
Join the Carnegie Africa program for the launch of AfTech. This event marks the beginning of a series of public engagements supporting the project as a foundation for policy dialogues with key stakeholders on Africa’s digital economy. The event will include a demonstration of AfTech and a panel discussion on how African countries are governing the digital economy to foster innovation, protect consumer rights, address cybersecurity, and promote inclusive digital growth.
Refreshments, including tea, coffee, and pastries, will be provided.
