Lumen and Microsoft Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance Digital Infrastructure
DENVER and REDMOND, Wash. — JULY 24, 2024 — Lumen Technologies (NYSE: LUMN) and Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) have announced a groundbreaking partnership that will leverage the Microsoft Cloud to drive Lumen’s digital transformation and expand Microsoft’s network infrastructure to meet growing demands on its datacenters fueled by AI.
Enhancing Network Infrastructure for the AI Era
Datacenters have become the backbone of modern computing, powering the capabilities for millions of users and organizations relying on the Microsoft Cloud. As Microsoft continues to lead in the AI revolution with tools like Azure OpenAI Service and Microsoft Copilot, the company is turning to Lumen as a strategic supplier for its network infrastructure needs. Lumen’s Private Connectivity Fabric℠, a custom network solution, will strengthen connectivity between Microsoft’s datacenters, providing the necessary capacity, performance, stability, and speed to support increasing data demands.

By migrating to Microsoft Azure, using Microsoft Entra solutions for security, and partnering on new telecom industry-specific solutions, Lumen expects to improve its cash flow by more than $20 million over the next 12 months while enhancing customer experience.
The collaboration builds upon the companies’ longstanding relationship, with Lumen having previously leveraged Microsoft’s Copilot to automate tasks and enhance Microsoft Teams. “Azure’s advanced global infrastructure helps customers adapt to changing conditions, accelerate innovation, and transform their business with AI,” Chapple noted.
