When cutting-edge technology meets one of the world’s oldest industries, innovation happens. Marble Technologies, a fast-growing ag tech startup, is a prime example. Founded in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, the company aims to modernize meat processing through automation and artificial intelligence (AI). According to Jordyn Bader, Director of Industry Partnerships, Marble develops robotics and automation systems powered by AI and machine learning to make meat processing safer, more efficient, and more scalable.
Marble takes a problems-first approach. “We wanted to understand the challenges our customers were experiencing and their pain points before coming up with a solution,” Bader explained. This approach led to the development of their first commercial product, Marble Pack-Off, an automated system that sorts vacuum-sealed meat products. Bader describes it as “an Amazon distribution center for meat products.” The system automates the process of identifying and sorting meat, capturing information such as weight, size, length, depth, and distribution.
By replacing repetitive, labor-intensive work with intelligent automation, Pack-Off reduces labor demands while improving consistency and value in meat sorting. This is particularly beneficial for high-end barbecue customers seeking uniform products. Marble isn’t just theorizing; they’re deploying real equipment in facilities and delivering tangible results.
Bader, who grew up in production agriculture, believes individuals from agricultural backgrounds are uniquely equipped to solve problems in this space. “I truly believe that individuals from the Midwest, who grew up in food and agriculture, are needed and must have a seat at the table when it comes to solving the biggest challenges in food and agriculture.”
The Journey and Challenges
Marble Technologies was born out of a sense of urgency during the COVID-19 pandemic, when supply chain disruptions, particularly in the meat supply chain, became apparent. The company started by talking to people in the animal protein segment to understand their challenges.
