Meta Invests in Scale AI for ‘Superintelligence’ Push
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has finalized a strategic partnership and investment in Scale AI, a company providing data services for AI models. The investment, reportedly worth about $14 billion, values Scale AI at more than $29 billion.
As part of this partnership, Scale AI’s CEO, Alexandr Wang, will join Meta to work on ‘superintelligence efforts.’ Wang, who founded Scale AI in 2016 at the age of 19, will remain a member of the board of directors and continue to support Scale’s mission.

Jason Droege, Scale AI’s chief strategy officer, will take over as interim CEO. Wang expressed his initial uncertainty about leaving Scale AI but realized the unique opportunity it presented for both him and the company.
This partnership is part of Meta’s efforts to build out a superintelligence lab focused on creating AI smarter than humans, going beyond the artificial general intelligence (AGI) sought by many tech and AI companies.
The investment and Wang’s appointment are significant steps in Meta’s AI development, leveraging Scale AI’s expertise in data services for AI models. This move aligns with Meta’s push into more advanced AI capabilities.
