Meta is reportedly planning to launch a dedicated application for its artificial intelligence assistant, Meta AI, in an effort to increase its competitiveness against AI-powered chatbots such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.
According to reports from CNBC, the launch of the stand-alone Meta AI app could occur as early as Meta’s upcoming fiscal quarter, spanning April to June. Currently, users can access Meta AI through a website and the company’s suite of applications, including Facebook and WhatsApp.
In addition to the new app, Meta intends to test a paid subscription service for Meta AI, promising enhanced capabilities, CNBC reported. The financial details, including the potential price point of the subscription, are yet to be disclosed.
Meta AI currently boasts over 700 million active monthly users, and the development of a dedicated app and premium subscription service forms a part of Meta’s broader strategy to establish itself as a major player in the artificial intelligence arena. The company is also actively releasing “open” models, such as Llama, which Meta hopes will spur the growth of an ecosystem that rivals OpenAI’s.
Adding to its AI initiatives, Meta is set to hold its first-ever AI-focused developer conference, LlamaCon, towards the end of April.
