Thousands of Microsoft 365 users encountered problems with the platform early on Sunday morning, particularly with Outlook email services. However, the tech giant announced that the issue has been resolved, and an investigation into the cause is underway.
Microsoft confirmed that the outage affected more than just Outlook, with services such as Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Azure also experiencing disruptions. The company stated that they had identified the potential cause and reverted a problematic code change to “alleviate impact.”
“We’re reviewing available telemetry and customer-provided logs to understand the impact. We’ve confirmed this issue is impacting various Microsoft 365 services…following our reversion of the problematic code change, we’ve monitored service telemetry and worked with previously impacted users to confirm that service is restored,” Microsoft said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
A similar message was posted to the Microsoft 365 Status account:

According to DownDetector, a website that tracks outages, approximately 37,000 users reported issues. The outage reports for Microsoft 365 peaked around 2:30 a.m. IST.
This isn’t the first time Microsoft Outlook users have faced access difficulties recently. In November 2024, both Microsoft Outlook and Teams services were down for over 24 hours, causing widespread disruption.
