Thousands of Microsoft 365 customers experienced disruptions on Saturday, reporting issues with services including Outlook. The company stated that it was investigating the cause.
In a series of posts on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Microsoft announced that it had identified a potential cause. “We’ve identified a potential cause of impact and have reverted the suspected code to alleviate impact,” the company stated in posts published by a dedicated incident-response account.
Microsoft reported in the afternoon that the majority of the affected services were beginning to recover following the implemented changes.
Prior to the restoration, some users took to social media to report their inability to access their Outlook email accounts. Data from Downdetector, which monitors outages, showed a spike in user reports.
The outage reports for Microsoft 365, especially for Outlook, peaked around 4 p.m. ET before gradually declining. Several users reported that service access was restored.
This week’s Microsoft outage follows a similar incident with the communications platform Slack earlier this week, which left thousands of users without access to the service.
