As we approach National AI Literacy Day on March 28, the need for AI skills in the workforce has never been more pressing. A recent global IDC survey found that the lack of skilled workers is the biggest challenge for enterprises implementing AI technology. The 2024 Work Trend Index Annual Report from Microsoft and LinkedIn revealed that 66% of leaders say they wouldn’t hire someone without AI skills. To address this issue, Microsoft and Pearson have announced a strategic collaboration to provide employers, workers, and learners with AI-powered products and services.

Empowering Learners with Essential AI Skills

The partnership between Microsoft and Pearson aims to help organizations realize the full value of AI through reskilling. By combining Pearson’s expertise in learning and assessment with Microsoft’s cloud and AI technologies, they will provide personalized learning at scale, innovative collaboration tools, and invest in technology-driven careers. The collaboration will be showcased at the ASU-GSV Summit in San Diego, US, April 6-9, 2025, where industry leaders will discuss transforming skills development and talent planning for the AI era.

    Key Initiatives

    • Personalized learning at scale using Microsoft Azure cloud computing and AI infrastructure
    • Innovative collaboration on new AI credentials and certifications
    • Investing in technology-driven careers through expanded Microsoft Cloud and Office certifications
    • Powering the Pearson workforce with Microsoft 365 Copilot to enhance efficiency and productivity

    Developing AI Literacy and Skills

The partnership extends the efforts of both Microsoft and Pearson to provide AI skilling to people globally. In 2024, Microsoft and its partners trained and certified over 23 million people in digital skills. Pearson launched its Generative AI Foundations certification to equip professionals and students with essential skills needed to work with generative AI technologies. Individuals can further develop their AI skills by joining the Microsoft AI Skills Fest, a 50-day program starting April 8, 2025, featuring deep dives, experiential content, hackathons, and practical sessions.
