Microsoft and Yotta Data Services, India’s leading sovereign cloud infrastructure provider, have formed a strategic partnership to accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) adoption across the country. The collaboration enables both companies to engage with key stakeholders, including government agencies, academic institutions, startups, and enterprises, to drive AI innovation.
Through this partnership, Microsoft will integrate its Azure AI services with Yotta’s Shakti Cloud, providing developers, startups, and organizations with cutting-edge AI capabilities. Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, emphasized that this collaboration will help unlock AI innovation at scale, supporting India’s unique needs and priorities.
Key Highlights of the Partnership
- Microsoft’s Azure AI services will be available on Shakti Cloud, offering a rich ecosystem of foundational large language models (LLMs) and small language models (SLMs)
- Organizations will benefit from built-in safety tools, content filters, and copyright protection to build and scale AI responsibly
- The partnership aims to support India’s goal of becoming an AI-first nation securely and responsibly
Sunil Gupta, Co-founder, CEO, and Managing Director of Yotta Data Services, noted that this partnership is a significant step towards India’s AI self-reliance and digital transformation. The combined strength of Microsoft’s services and Yotta’s infrastructure will provide access to advanced AI capabilities for Indian enterprises of all sizes, driving the nation’s AI ambitions forward.
This collaboration builds on Microsoft’s previous initiatives in India, including the announcement made in January this year to advance AI and emerging technologies in the country. The company established an AI Centre of Excellence and AI Productivity Labs to foster inclusive growth and support India’s AI ecosystem.

As India continues to be among the top global markets in AI adoption and return on investment, this partnership is poised to further accelerate the country’s AI journey. With over 500 proposals already received for developing indigenous AI models under the IndiaAI Mission, the collaboration between Microsoft and Yotta Data Services comes at a critical juncture in India’s AI development.
