During a fireside chat at Meta’s LlamaCon conference, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that between 20% to 30% of the code within Microsoft’s repositories is generated by AI. The disclosure came in response to a question from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg about the proportion of Microsoft’s code that is currently AI-generated. Nadella noted that the effectiveness of AI-generated code varies across different programming languages, with Python showing more promising results compared to C++. This revelation aligns with recent statements from other tech giants; Microsoft’s CTO, Kevin Scott, previously predicted that AI would generate 95% of all code by 2030. Google CEO Sundar Pichai also reported during their last earnings call that AI was responsible for generating over 30% of the company’s code. However, the exact methodologies used by Microsoft and Google to measure AI-generated code are unclear, suggesting that these figures should be interpreted cautiously.
