For a while, Mac users have been watching Microsoft’s Copilot launch elsewhere, feeling left out. Finally, macOS has a dedicated Copilot app.
Copilot is Microsoft’s AI-powered assistant, similar to ChatGPT, but with deeper Microsoft integration. It’s been accessible on web browsers and mobile devices, but now Mac users have their own app. This means no more opening Safari or Chrome just for AI assistance.
With Copilot on macOS, you can easily draft emails, summarize documents, brainstorm ideas, and perform other tasks typically handled by your AI assistant, all from the dedicated app. No more keeping a browser tab open just to access Copilot.
To make it feel like a native part of the system, the app supports a “Command + Space” shortcut.
Unfortunately, there’s a catch. Copilot requires macOS 14.0 or later and at least an M1-based Mac. Intel-based Mac users are out of luck for now.
Microsoft is offering all users unlimited access to Copilot’s Voice and Think Deeper features. Voice allows you to have conversations with the AI, while Think Deeper uses OpenAI’s o1 model to answer more complex queries.
It’s interesting to see Microsoft cooperating with Apple, considering the delay in bringing Copilot to macOS. As AI becomes increasingly important, Microsoft is not going to let Apple have the advantage with Siri’s upcoming AI enhancements.
So, Mac users, now’s your chance to try Copilot. Was it worth the wait?
