Microsoft Launches 8080 Books Imprint
Microsoft has announced the launch of 8080 Books, a new imprint dedicated to publishing original research, ideas, and insights at the intersection of science, technology, and business. The imprint’s first title, “No Prize for Pessimism,” is available now.
The inaugural book is authored by Sam Schillace, Microsoft’s deputy chief technology officer. A second title, “Platform Mindset,” by Marcus Fontoura, is scheduled for release later this year.
8080 Books’ goal is to contribute to the ongoing conversation within the technology landscape. The imprint’s name is inspired by the 8080 microprocessor, a key component in Microsoft’s early software developments, and also happens to be the last four digits of the company’s corporate headquarters phone number.
With their extensive experience within Microsoft, the 8080 Books team plans to leverage internal talent while also featuring the work of thinkers from outside the company. According to a statement, Microsoft is not currently accepting unsolicited manuscripts. However, the website will provide details about plans to potentially re-release relevant out-of-print titles.
Readers and fans are also invited to attend a book reading and signing with Sam Schillace. The event will take place at Brick & Mortar Books in Redmond, Washington, on Wednesday, December 11. Space is limited.
