U.K. antitrust authorities have decided against a formal investigation into Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT. The review was initiated to establish whether the alliance should be deemed a de facto merger that could potentially hinder competition within the country.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) began its review in December 2023, examining Microsoft’s investment in OpenAI and their broader collaboration within the artificial intelligence sector. The CMA has concluded this partnership does not warrant a formal probe. This is seen as a positive development for the tech giant as it seeks to solidify its partnership with the AI firm.
