Thousands of Microsoft Outlook users experienced service disruptions on Sunday, March 2, 2025, according to reports. The problems with accessing Outlook emails and other Microsoft 365 services prompted a swift response from the tech giant.
Microsoft acknowledged the issue, stating that it was investigating the outage. The company later identified a “potential cause” and took action, reverting an impacting service update. They confirmed that the majority of services were recovering after the change.
“We’re investigating an issue in which users may be unable to access Outlook features and services,” Microsoft stated in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). The post directed users to the admin center for more details (MO1020913).
Microsoft’s official status page indicated that the service had returned to a “healthy state” following the reversion of the update. The company initiated a period of extended monitoring to ensure stability and address any remaining issues with other Microsoft 365 services.
Data from Downdetector, a website that tracks outages, showed that nearly 37,000 users in the United States had reported that Outlook was not working. The outage appears to have been widespread.
Microsoft’s quick response and the subsequent recovery of services suggest a rapid resolution to the problem, though users were advised to monitor the service status page for further updates.
