Microsoft to Retire Skype on May 5
Microsoft will officially retire Skype on May 5, marking the end of one of the most recognizable video-calling platforms from the early internet era. After more than twenty years of service, the technology giant is urging users to transition to Microsoft Teams, which has become its primary communication and collaboration platform.
“All Skype chats and contacts will remain accessible through Teams using the same login credentials,” the company stated in a blog post, reassuring users of a seamless migration. Existing contacts and chat histories will be preserved, ensuring continuity for users.
This move aligns with Microsoft’s strategy to consolidate its communication services under Teams, which offers more comprehensive collaboration features compared to Skype.
