Microsoft has announced a new generation of Windows experiences with a slew of AI-powered features coming to Copilot+ PCs and all Windows 11 users. The tech giant is enhancing various aspects of the Windows ecosystem with AI-driven capabilities.
New Features for Copilot+ PCs
For users with Copilot+ PCs, Microsoft is introducing several innovative features:
- AI-Powered Windows Settings: An AI agent will be able to change Windows settings based on user requests, simplifying tasks such as modifying mouse pointers or controlling Windows by voice.
- Enhanced Click to Do and Windows Search: Improvements to Click to Do will allow users to ask Copilot to perform tasks like generating content in Word or scheduling meetings. Windows search will be able to find specific settings, locate apps, and help track down photos.
- AI-Enhanced Apps: The Photos app will gain a ‘relight’ feature to adjust lighting in photos. Paint will get a sticker generator and object select tool. The Snipping Tool will automatically detect areas to capture, extract text from images, and include a color picker.
Features for All Windows 11 Users
Windows 11 users will also benefit from several new features:
- Revamped Start Menu: The Start menu will feature an All Apps view that sorts apps by frequency of use and a phone companion view.
- AI Actions in File Explorer: Right-clicking files will reveal AI-driven actions such as summarizing text documents or editing images.
- Notepad Enhancements: Notepad will gain AI-powered writing, summarizing, and formatting capabilities, including support for markdown files.
- Copilot Windows App Updates: The Copilot app will allow Vision to analyze any browser screen or app window, and users will be able to initiate voice conversations with Copilot.
These features will roll out to Windows Insiders first, with broader availability to follow. Microsoft’s push into AI-enhanced Windows experiences aims to make interactions more intuitive and productive.
